Initially when I decided to dive into the study of Advertising I would proclaim to all of my friends that I was going to work for companies that were non-profit, or start my own firm that did. Since then I have become jaded, and no longer see that as my main source of income. Advertising is not a horrible green monster devouring America’s morale. It is a mystery to me that I ever even assumed I would have an income doing that sort of work anyway. However, this is still of an interest to me. So, I was thinking…
In pursuing Advertising, it is my goal to have a desired effect on the audience. This is not just any effect, but one that reconstructs one person’s regular way of thinking about things. For instance, the Public Service Announcement (PSA) entitled “Lucky” is an advertisement that drills into your mind what the effect of driving too fast can have on a pedestrian. The announcement should be recalled in your mind during that crucial moment when you find yourself speeding, and with any luck the thought will slow you down. This is the crucial moment in time that you want your PSA to become effective.
This is the goal of a PSA. To do that one must draw from outside resources and pull themselves into that crucial moment. You should ask yourself “What would I remember when the moment strikes?” and submit an answer.
Here is how you can view “Lucky”.
This is not for the faint of heart, but you can find it here:
